Affiliate Disclosure — Zero Emission Journey
We believe in transparency — especially when it comes to how we fund this site. Zero Emission Journey is an independent project run by four ordinary people who care about living a little greener without turning it into a luxury hobby. We don’t have corporate sponsors or investors. Nobody’s paying us to push products. But websites have bills, and solar panels don’t run on goodwill (yet), so to help cover costs, we use affiliate links and Google AdSense ads.
Here’s how that works, in plain language. When we link to a product or service — like a solar lantern, a compost bin, or a set of LED bulbs that actually last — that link might be an affiliate link. If you click it and buy something, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay anything extra. The price stays the same; we just get a tiny percentage from the retailer for sending them a customer. Those small amounts help us keep the site online, cover hosting, and occasionally test new products ourselves.
We currently work with — or may occasionally use — the following affiliate networks:
- Awin (Affiliate Window)
- FlexOffers
- Commission Junction (CJ)
- ShareASale
- Webgains
We also use Google AdSense to display ads throughout the site. We do our best to filter out anything irrelevant, misleading, or completely at odds with what we stand for. You won’t find “miracle gadgets” that claim to clean oceans, or “eco-friendly crypto” projects here. We review and monitor ads regularly, because nothing ruins a good sustainability site like being told to buy more stuff you don’t need.
Now for the important part: affiliate links never influence what we write. If something’s great, we’ll tell you why. If it’s greenwashing, we’ll call it out. If it’s decent but overpriced, we’ll tell you to wait for a sale. Our opinions are 100% our own, and we’re not shy about saying when a product doesn’t live up to its “eco” label.
When we recommend a product, it’s because one of us — Daniel, Louis, Donna, or Larry — has actually used it, researched it, or seen it work in real life. Daniel writes about the budget-friendly options that make sense for renters. Louis focuses on family-friendly upgrades that won’t bankrupt you. Donna talks about long-lasting alternatives to disposable culture. Larry digs into the practical side — the stuff that works, the stuff that doesn’t, and the stuff you can fix yourself.
If a brand ever sends us a sample or review unit, we’ll make that clear in the article. And we’ll still be honest about it. We don’t exchange positive coverage for freebies or sponsorships, and we don’t accept money for “brand partnerships.” That’s not what this site is about.
We also believe that sustainability shouldn’t mean buying endless new products. Often the greenest choice is using what you already have. We’ll never tell you to buy something just because it’s trendy, and we’re more likely to write “five ways to fix your old one” than “five new gadgets to buy now.” If we link to something, it’s because it’s useful, affordable, and worth your time — not because we’re chasing commissions.
Here’s what our affiliate policy looks like in simple terms:
- We use affiliate links and ads to support the site.
- You never pay extra for using them.
- We only recommend products that make sense for sustainable living.
- We’re open about review samples or partnerships.
- Our editorial independence comes first.
Like most websites, some affiliate links may include cookies. These small files track whether a purchase was made after clicking our link. They don’t collect personal information or tell us who you are. We can see that “someone bought a solar charger,” but not that it was you. You can disable cookies anytime in your browser settings — the site will still work fine.
If you ever want to know more about how affiliate links work, or if you’re unsure whether a particular post contains them, email us at [email protected]. We’ll tell you exactly how it works — no vague language, no marketing talk.
We’re proud to be fully independent. We write because we believe people deserve clear, honest advice about living more sustainably. If affiliate income helps us stay online without paywalls or pop-up subscriptions, great. If it doesn’t, we’ll still be here, writing about greener ways to live and the occasional disaster that happens when Larry tests something “foolproof.”
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting Zero Emission Journey. Every click, comment, and conversation helps us keep spreading real, down-to-earth sustainability — no hype, no greenwashing, just honest stories and small steps that make a difference.
